Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries (VRFB)

VRFB's are a well understood technology that was discovered over 30 years ago. This technology was only recently commercialised with the push for renewable energy and the demand that placed for long duration storage.

VRFB's are simple but highly effective batteries, that employ a liquid Vanadium based electrolyte that is pumped through a "Stack" where the electrolyte's stored energy is converted into electricity. The stack is designed for a specific Kw output requirement and the volume of electrolyte determines the number of Kwh of storage the battery has. This makes this technology easily scalable from domestic applications right up to utility scale storage.

The key advantages that these batteries have over current technologies are:

• Easily scalable to utility size storage requirements. (Mwh)

• High cycle count design life - 20,000 plus Cycles

• high portion of the battery is recyclable at the end of 20,000 cycles, including the electrolyte which is often 60%+ of the value of the battery

• No fire risk

• 100% Depth of Discharge (DOD) causes no damage

X Flo Energy have chosen to partner with Vanevo GmbH of Germany because they have elevated this already revolutionary technology by leading the world in the stack design and manufacture. Making the product more efficient and cheaper to produce through German ingenuity.

Metal Hydrogen Battery

Metal Hydrogen Batteries have been around for many years. One of the earliest examples has been employed by NASA in a spacecraft, where it has surpassed 30 years in service and is still operating efficiently.

These batteries have recently been commercialised and are being adopted for projects with a long design life. The Energy Rack is a 150Kwh unit that can be combined up to Mwh of utility scale storage.

The key advantages the Energy Rack has over alternate technologies are:

• Easily integrated into a system due to onboard BMS & pre-integrated Energy Vessels

• Globally leading design life - 30,000 cycles design life

• 86% of capacity at 30,000 cycles

• 100% Depth of Discharge (DOD) making the full design capacity usable

• No fire risk

Lithium Ion Battery (LiPo)

Lithium batteries are the DeFacto standard in the industry and remain suitable for many applications. Lithium batteries are widely used in the industry and come in various configurations, which can vary based on

• Kwh of storage,

• voltage they operate at as well as

• whether they are rack mounted or

• wall mounted.

The key advantages the Lithium battery has are:

• Easily integrated into a system due to onboard BMS

• Typically a good quality battery will offer 6000 cycles design life

• 80% Depth of Discharge (DOD) to avoid compromising design life

• High energy density, so have a small size vs. other technologies
